“Dreamsicle” Fudge

My husband brought home a little plate of  “Dreamsicle” Fudge. I was, frankly, skeptical because I could tell at a glance that there was NO chocolate in that there fudge….so how good could it be? On the other hand, his colleague Ellen had made the fudge and everything SHE makes is delicious.
To my surprise, I [...]

We’re in Deeeeeeeep Truffle

I can’t help myself. On Saturday I made my first trip of the season to our local Farmer’s Market. My wonderful friends and partners-in-cooking-crime, Shannon and her fifteen-year-old daughter Margaret were there selling their tasty wares. Shannon slipped me some samples of one of their wildly popular items: truffles! WOWOWOWOWOW. I remembered all the reasons [...]

Peppermint Bark

I don’t know why I like minty things at Christmas time so much, but they always taste just right. For this reason, I’m always on the lookout for peppermint treats to make.
Peppermint bark couldn’t be much easier. Even though I’m not all that fond of white chocolate, in this form, it tastes good.

Miss Diane’s Christmas Toffee

About a hundred years ago, my boys all took gymnastics for a few years from a wonderful woman called Miss Diane. Every Christmas, Miss Diane gave the gift of homemade toffee to the families of all her gymnastics students. I badgered that poor lady for years for her recipe. She told me quite bluntly that [...]

Easy, no-fail fudge

I spent many years trying to actually make fudge that WORKED. Then I married Dave and learned of this easy, EASY fudge recipe. I think this recipe also came from Mr. Spillars of Karmel Korn fame.

Auntie Karen’s Homemade Caramels

Years ago, when my children were tiny, auntie Karen gave me this recipe. These homemade caramels make a wonderful Christmas gift. The time-consuming part is something that even very little children can help with. After you eat one of these homemade caramels, you’ll never want to eat the kind you buy in the store again!

Karmel Korn

Don’t ask me why it’s spelled with a K; some recipes you just marry into, you know! Well, the truth is, this recipe for homemade caramel corn was already a hand-me-down to my husband’s family. The recipe comes from Robley Spillars, a fascinating old guy who was the backdoor neighbor for my husband’s family for [...]

Cappucino Truffles

NOW we’re talking chocolate!
We were at a Christmas party on Saturday night and were told specifically to be on the lookout for Sita’s fabulous truffles. Sure enough we found them and sure enough they were fabulous. Dave and I singlehandedly wiped out the truffle population at our table. (It’s always good to accomplish something!)

Holiday Peanut Butter Balls

When we lived in California, one of my dearest friends was also our pediatrician, Dr. Karen. Every year, Dr. Karen took the time to make Holiday Peanut Butter Balls for our family. They disappeared so quickly, it’s hard to actually remember them!
This is a super easy recipe, but it makes a great gift during the [...]
