My dear friend Margaret (a real live Swedish woman who actually serves and enjoys lutefisk!) brought me a plate of these Dream Bars in November, and I nearly hurt myself, because I can’t stop eating them. There is NO self-control involved here. If you have that one Christmas party yet that you need to bring treats for, this is it. They are easy, and they will cause a a stir! Margaret brought me another plate of Dream Bars this afternoon, along with the recipe. So I share that with you, but not the bars, because, um…..we’ve somehow misplaced them all, don’t quite know what happened to them….ahem…
Dream Bars:
First: Mix 1/2 c. butter with 2 TBSP brown sugar and 1 c. flour. Spread in buttered 9×9 in. pan and bake 12 minutes at 350ºF.
Next: Mix the following:
- 2 heaping TBSP flour
- 1 1/2 c. dark brown sugar
- 1/4 tsp. baking powdeer
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2 beaten eggs
- 1 c. walnuts, chopped fine
- 1 tsp. vanilla
Pour over first baked mixture. Return to oven and bake 25 minutes more.
Remove from oven and allow to cool completely. Sprinkle with powdered sugar.
