Friday’s Fish

We can’t always get good prices on fish, but this week one of our local stores had some beautiful tilapia on sale for $2.99 a pound. I snatched up two pounds for our family and got to work.
This is really more a method than a recipe, but it’s tasty and my family loved it.

Diane’s Donuts

I mentioned several months ago that I spent quite a number of my summers working at a camp in British Columbia, Rock Nest Ranch. It was at Rock Nest Ranch that I acquired my baked oatmeal recipe as well as my Apple Cinnamon French Toast recipe. Those are recipes that I use pretty frequently. This [...]

Amish Friendship Bread

I was terribly tempted to title this post: Sharing a Delicious Recipe and Debunking a Few Myths. At the last minute I restrained myself. Amish Friendship bread is the kitchen’s version of a chain letter. There are no promises of great riches or good luck if you make the bread.Nobody will send you 500 embroidered [...]

Jeanette’s Shortbread

Before I had children, I was a classroom teacher. My last year of teaching was one of the most difficult because I had a combination 5th-6th grade class. There was a little boy in the 5th grade half of the class named David. His mom, named Jeanette, had been born in Scotland and made the [...]

Where to eat in Phoenix and other oddments

Black ‘n’ Tan

A tradition in the Kelley house for the past 10 years is the Black and Tan. These can be spotted around here throughout the month of March! The Black and Tan served in the U.S. uses a Stout and an Ale layered together.

Irish Coffee

Irish coffee has traditionally been served on St. Patrick’s Day at Dave’s house for as long as he can remember. We have great memories of enjoying Irish coffee made by Dave’s dad Jim over the years. We were given a set of Irish Coffee mugs as a wedding present 22 years ago by our good [...]

Irish Lamb Stew

If corned beef and cabbage isn’t your style, this is a tasty lamb stew.

Irish Soda Bread

When I was a sophomore in college, I took a class on the history of Ireland. (This was years before I met Dave!) The culminating activity for that class was to have a lavish Irish feast at the home of the professor. I gleaned this recipe from that evening, as well as many fond memories; [...]

Baked Corned Beef

This really is the only way I can eat corned beef. (And to be honest, I’m a little hazy on what, exactly, corned beef IS.)
