Over the years I’ve learned a LOT about cooking from my auntie Joan. She was, in fact, the one who taught me how to make homemade cinnamon rolls when I was only ten years old. She’s been having a lot of fun reading My Sister’s Kitchen and has compiled a list of fun recipes that [...]

Bacon-wrapped Water Chestnuts
This is a tried and true favorite in my husband’s family. In fact, it’s really hard to behave when these little goodies are on the appetizer tray. I made a triple batch of these for Auntie Shirl’s birthday party, but they STILL all disappeared.

Using up the VERY last of the Thanksgiving leftovers
We’re definitely getting into that zone of leftovers getting to smell, taste, and look a little questionable. This is about the longest I like to leave things in the fridge. So today, 12-year-old Michael and I made SOUP. Oh my. What a fun thing. This soup comes complete with its own secret ingredient.

The Big Party
Well, my head is still spinning and we’re still recovering from The Big Birthday Bash. I’m gradually using up the leftovers that won’t keep for long and my brain is finally settling down enough to think about writing about this wonderful party.

Vegetable Romano Quiche
Have we discussed quiche? No? Well, we should! During the next several weeks, we ALL need a few easy-peasy recipes to get dinner on the table without fuss. This quiche, which I made last night, definitely fills that bill:

Tasty Turkey Leftover Tip
We had a lot of cranberry relish left over from yesterday…so for lunch we’re slicing thick slabs of French bread, smearing a bit of ranch dressing on them, layering some turkey on top of that. Then I’ll spread some leftover cranberry relish (I made the really spicy one) and top that with some grated asiago [...]

Making deviled turkey
There is a moment when all the good pieces of white meat have been used on sandwiches. In fact, even the odd-shaped pieces of dark meat are gone. All that remain are the bits and pieces of leftover turkey that have gristle or just don’t look particularly appetizing. Do NOT just toss those out. They [...]

Quick, easy hors d’oeuvres
The trickiest thing about hors d’oeuvres is spelling it. Sometimes, the next trickiest thing about them is remembering to plan for them. Today, if you realize that you haven’t even thought about ideas for appetizers because all your attention has been on The Bird, here are a couple of ideas from my 16 year old [...]

Uh-oh, my turkey is still frozen and it’s Wednesday night!
If you just realized, with enormous panic, that your turkey is still rock hard in the deep freeze and it’s NOT going to thaw in the fridge overnight, take a deep breath. Is it possible to thaw a turkey fast? Right now, fill up the kitchen sink with enough cold water to completely submerse your [...]
